Aranya calls Northern Virginia home, but thanks to her father’s Foreign Service career and her mother’s Thai heritage, she has had the good fortune to travel the world and live in other countries. After graduating from the University of Virginia in 1998, Aranya worked as a reporter for a local newspaper in McClean, Virginia. In 2001, she moved to New York City and held a plethora of jobs including bartender, freelance music writer, Rolling Stone intern and RCA Records publicist. The experience made her realize that she missed being a journalist, and she eventually returned to her old job as a community reporter. Realizing her true calling, she graduated with a Master’s in Journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in 2008. She currently works for Chicago Magazine Home + Garden.
